Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel apologized for his \u201croast\u201d of First Lady Melania Trump, saying that people misunderstood his joke about her being \u201can expectant widow.\u201d In his opening monologue of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d on Monday night, Kimmel refused to accept any responsibility or offer an actual apology.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a very light roast joke about the fact that he\u2019s almost 80 and she\u2019s younger than I am,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cIt was not\u2014by any stretch of the definition\u2014a call to assassination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel admitted to being under scrutiny from President Donald Trump, this time because he made a joke about the first lady being a \u201cwidow\u201d a few days before the U.S. Secret Service stopped a potential assassin outside the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know how sometimes you wake up in the morning and the first lady puts out a statement demanding you be fired from your job?\u201d Kimmel\u2019s monologue began. \u201cWe\u2019ve all been there, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, it was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they\u2019re together,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cthey know that\u201d was not a joke about \u201cassassination\u201d but Trump dying of old age.<\/p>\n

Kimmel also added he understands the \u201cstress\u201d of being Trump\u2019s first lady.<\/p>\n
