President Trump<\/a>\u00a0claimed Thursday that China plans to \u201cinvest hundreds of billions of dollars\u201d in the companies run by the CEOs he \u201csurprised\u201d Xi Jinping with\u00a0during their high-stakes meeting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose business people are here to make deals and to bring back jobs,\u201d Trump said of the dozens of executives and entrepreneurs that accompanied him on his historic trip to Beijing.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina\u2019s going to invest hundreds of billions of dollars with those people that were in that room today,\u201d the president\u00a0told Fox News host Sean Hannity<\/a>\u00a0in an interview that aired Thursday night. \u201cThat\u2019s why they came.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump revealed that businesspeople, including Tesla and SpaceX boss\u00a0Elon Musk<\/a>\u00a0and Apple\u2019s Tim Cook, were not initially scheduled to take part in the US delegation\u2019s meeting with Xi and Chinese officials at the Great Hall of the People.<\/p>\n

\u201cI suggested that before we start the meeting, \u2018I\u2019d like to introduce them to you,\u2019\u201d Trump said, \u201cand they were surprised, because it wasn\u2019t, you know, it wasn\u2019t scheduled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said Chinese leadership \u201creally had a good time\u201d once they \u201cgot used to the fact that we\u2019re a little off schedule here.\u201d<\/p>\n
