Iran is accusing the U.S. of violating the\u00a0fragile ceasefire agreement<\/a>\u00a0between the two countries after\u00a0President Trump\u00a0<\/a><\/span>directed<\/a>\u00a0the U.S. Navy to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new equation of the Strait of Hormuz is in the process of being solidified,\u201d Iran\u2019s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote in a\u00a0post on social platform X<\/a> early Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe security of shipping and energy transit has been jeopardized by the United States and its allies through the violation of the ceasefire and the imposition of a blockade; of course, their evil will diminish,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe know full well that the continuation of the status quo is intolerable for America; while we have not even begun yet.<\/p>\n

Ghalibaf has been a top negotiator for Iran in the\u00a0peace talks<\/a>\u00a0between the Trump administration and Iranian regime mediated by Pakistan \u2014 though the discussions have\u00a0largely stalled<\/a>\u00a0in recent weeks. The U.S., in addition to seeking an\u00a0updated nuclear deal<\/a>, is also negotiating control of the\u00a0Strait of Hormuz<\/a>\u00a0with Tehran.<\/p>\n

The trading passage has been effectively closed since the onset of the conflict at the end of February, with Iranian counterstrikes in the region\u00a0endangering vessels<\/a>\u00a0traveling through the critical oil shipping route.<\/p>\n

Trump imposed a\u00a0naval blockade<\/a>\u00a0in the waterway to place pressure on Iran during the negotiation period.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the president announced that the U.S. Navy would begin \u201cProject Freedom\u201d to aid other countries\u2019 ships trapped in the strait. The U.S. military began providing guidance to these vessels about safe maritime lanes on Monday.<\/p>\n

Over 100 aircraft and 15,000 service members are involved in the effort, U.S. Central Command (Centcom) said Monday.<\/p>\n

Centcom Chief Adm. Brad Cooper\u00a0told reporters<\/a>\u00a0on Monday that the U.S. had fired on and sunk six small Iranian boats after Iran launched \u201cmultiple cruise missiles, drones and small boats\u201d at the U.S. Navy and commercial ships in the strait.<\/p>\n

The United Arab Emirates\u2019 defense ministry said Monday that it had\u00a0intercepted<\/a>\u00a0four drones, three cruise missiles and 12 ballistic missiles launched by Iran on the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Defence affirmed that it remains fully prepared and ready to deal with any threats and will firmly confront anything that aims to undermine the security of the country, in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, security and stability and safeguards its interests and national capabilities,\u201d the department wrote on\u00a0social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tehran has not confirmed their involvement in the attacks, but Iranian Foreign Minister\u00a0Abbas Araghchi\u00a0<\/a><\/span>issued a stark warning<\/a>\u00a0on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs talks are making progress with Pakistan\u2019s gracious effort, the U.S. should be wary of being dragged back into quagmire by ill-wishers,\u201d he wrote in a\u00a0social media post<\/a>. \u201cSo should the UAE.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
