President Trump\u00a0<\/a><\/span>on Monday denied that he called ABC News reporter\u00a0Jonathan Karl\u00a0<\/a><\/span>to check in on him the morning after the shooting in the vicinity of the White House Correspondents\u2019 Association (WHCA) dinner.<\/p>\n

In a video he\u00a0posted to the social platform X<\/a> on April 26, Karl said that Trump called him just after 7 a.m. EDT and asked if he was \u201cokay.\u201d<\/p>\n

But more than a week after Karl, the longtime chief Washington correspondent at ABC News, recounted the call, the president claimed it never happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cJonathan Karl, of ABC Fake News, made a statement that I called him early in the morning, the day after the assassination attempt, to ask whether or not HE was OK,\u201d Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. \u201cNo, this was a hit on ME, not HIM, and I didn\u2019t make such a call, why would I do that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe called me, but I didn\u2019t take his call \u2014 He just confirmed that to me when he called again,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cI would say that\u2019s very dishonest reporting. He\u2019s trying to make himself look important but, I\u2019m not surprised, because it comes from ABC Fake News!\u201d<\/p>\n

Karl and Trump often speak over the phone, including on Monday. During that conversation, the president said that Iranian\u00a0drones and missiles fired at the United Arab Emirates<\/a>\u00a0\u201cwere shot down for the most part\u201d and\u00a0South Korea \u201cshould take some action\u201d<\/a>\u00a0after Iranian forces struck a cargo ship from the Asian country in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

The Hill has reached out to ABC News for comment.<\/p>\n

On the morning after the incident, Karl said that Trump emphasized the need for \u201cunity\u201d and said that the WHCA dinner must be rescheduled.<\/p>\n

Several White House correspondents\u00a0told CNN<\/a>\u00a0that the dinner should be hosted again. Weijia Jiang of CBS News, the president of the WHCA, told members Friday that the association\u2019s board is \u201cworking through options for a \u201crescheduled event,\u201d according to CNN.<\/p>\n

The suspect in the shooting, 31-year-old Cole Allen, was\u00a0charged last Monday<\/a>\u00a0with attempting to assassinate Trump and other federal firearms violations. Allen appeared in court Monday for a detention hearing, after the D.C. Jail\u00a0removed him from suicide watch<\/a>\u00a0a day earlier.<\/p>\n

Jeanine Pirro,<\/a><\/span>\u00a0the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said Sunday that investigators were able to\u00a0\u201cdefinitively\u201d determine<\/a> that the bullet that hit a Secret Service agent during the shootout was fired by the alleged gunman.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is definitively his bullet, he hit at that Secret Service agent, he had every intention to kill him and anyone who got in his way on his way to killing the president of the United States,\u201d Pirro told host\u00a0Jake Tapper\u00a0<\/a><\/span>on CNN\u2019s\u00a0\u201cState of the Union.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
