By the time Blue Hawaii hit theaters in 1961, Elvis Presley was already one of the biggest stars on the planet. Juliet Prowse was originally supposed to star opposite Elvis after appearing with him in G.I. Blues. When those requests were denied, she walked away from the role, and Joan Blackman stepped in instead.<\/p>\n

That turned out to be an unforgettable pairing. Joan Blackman later admitted she and Elvis shared genuine chemistry from the moment they met. Elvis reportedly wanted her to appear in more of his movies and even imagined marrying her someday, but Joan insisted she wanted acting roles based on talent, not romance.<\/p>\n

The resort later became famous for Elvis and Joan Blackman\u2019s on-screen wedding scene and the unforgettable performance of \u201cHawaiian Wedding Song.\u201d Though Hurricane Iniki destroyed the resort in 1992, its ruins still stand as a haunting reminder of old Hollywood and Elvis history.<\/p>\n
